We have a new Clarice Starling! And she's an Aussie!

ALSO: RIP Bold & The Beautiful co-creator Lee Phillip Bell

Lee Philip Bell co-created The Bold and The Beautiful and The Young and The Restless alongside her husband William J Bell. She died at the age of 91.

Soaps weren’t the height of her achievements in TV.

Born in Chicago, Illinois on June 9, 1928, Bell began a career in broadcast journalism her her hometown, hosting and producing her own show, The Lee Phillip Show, that ran on for CBS TV for more than 30 years. The afternoon talk show was notable for an early interest in social issues. Bell produced and narrated award-winning specials and documentaries on subjects including foster children, rape, children and divorce, and babies born to women in prison.

As host of the show, Bell interviewed Presidents Gerald Ford and Ronald Regan; and celebrities including The Beatles, Judy Garland, Clint Eastwood, Jerry Lewis, The Rolling Stones, Lucille Ball, Jack Benny and Oprah Winfrey, among many others.

Rolling Stone has a pretty good list of the best sketch comedy shows ever made. It’s a US list, so obviously it is very US-focused. There’s a lot of good inclusions on there.

Fans of The Simpsons should take a listen to the latest episode of The Dana Gould Hour podcast. Gould was a writer on The Simpsons during its later years, but the most recent episode has him talking with old-school Simpsons writer Jay Kogan. He was one of the very first writers in the room at The Simpsons when it became a TV show (spun-off from The Tracey Ullman Show). It’s not an all-Simpsons chat, but you’ll hear some great stories of his time on the show.

Australian Rebecca Breeds (The Originals, Home & Away) has been cast as Clarice Starling in the new Silence of The Lambs TV series.

The show will be called Clarice, which I’m almost certain was the name of a 90s sitcom.

Are you as fascinated as I am by the shutdown of streaming game show HQ? The final word on the tensions happening behind the scenes is detailed in this great Bloomberg article by Kurt Wagner.

Kroll contemplated leaving HQ altogether. His relationship with Yusupov had been rocky since the allegations and subsequent fundraising struggles. "I have a lot of ideas left," he said in a text message to a friend reviewed by Bloomberg. "And I don't want to make them w/Rus."

At the office, Yusupov and Kroll continued to sit next to each other. But their mutual dislike had become so intense that one person familiar with the dynamic recalled that instead of speaking, they would sometimes Slack employees messages for each other.

Octavia Spencer stars in the 4-part Netflix mini Self Made about America’s first self-made millionaire, Madam C.J. Walker. It launches March 20.

This is a real kids book coming out later this year. I suspect a kids audience isn’t really who this is being made for.
