The first teaser for Apple’s new show The Morning Show has just gone live. While brand awareness is certainly important, I honestly still don’t really understand what this show is, exactly, nor am I any more enthused now than when I got halfway through this one minute teaser and stopped paying attention. I get that it will be a premium TV drama - but how is that qualifier any different to almost all other shows now? TL;DW.
From a trailer counterpoint, I had a big smile on my face watching the HBO reel of shows in its upcoming lineup. I was even enthused about shows I have zero interest in, like Ballers. That’s the power of a good trailer.
And another counterpoint, the trailer reveal of season 3 of The Crown isn’t entirely dissimilar to The Morning Show trailer, but the objectives are quite different. The Crown is a known property - we already get what that show is all about. What’s exciting about this trailer is that it reveals our first real look at Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth.
The Crown returns to Netflix on November 17.
In the build-up to season 2 of Succession (a show that I really rather like), so many articles are framed around the excess and craziness of characters like Cousin Greg. None of the articles really feel anything like the show that I have been watching, which is actually a really low-fi drama about big personalities and the way their varying levels of power manifests in each others relationships.
Is it just that people really like the show, but have trouble making the show sound interesting?
CBS and Viacom stocks are down as the two companies finalise a merger. The company has media holdings that could look incredibly interesting once merged together, but the general sense seems to be that nobody has a great deal of faith in the executive talent, particularly with current Viacom CEO Bob Bakish expected to run the combined company.
Across three nights in the US fans of the show Friends can enjoy 4k conversions of episodes screened at the cinema.

Nathan For You’s Nathan Fielder has signed a one year deal with HBO to executive produce comedy How To With… John Wilson and also to star and produce a show he will star in.
French broadcasters TF1, M6, and public broadcaster France Televisions will join together on a streaming platform branded as Salto to compete against international streaming services.
Gilles Pélisson, CEO of the TF1 group, said that Salto embodies “a new ambition for the French broadcasting industry” and that the antitrust approval “demonstrates the authorities’ awareness for the need to support…industry players in making the necessary innovative changes in order to face new challenges.”
M6 boss Nicolas de Tavernost added: “Our channels are popular with French people, our content is attractive and our technology is very advanced – all reasons to welcome the forthcoming launch of an ambitious joint offer like Salto.”
The Deuce returns on 9 September. It’s an incredible show that I’m concerned that you, constant reader, have not yet watched.
