Imagine The Office… but with no office!

ALSO: Stephen Colbert reveals his dark past.

Paul Lieberstein was once Toby from The Office… but also, quietly, he was the boss. The showrunner, if you will. He’s since made a number of TV shows, but he’s back with a timely new premise: Imagine The Office… but with no office?

The premise of his new series is a workplace comedy starring characters working remotely. I question if anyone could relate to such a premise.

TV Review: The Office 5.9 - Frame Toby

Following the cancellation of SXSW this year, Amazon is stepping up through a deal with the film festival for Prime Video Presents the SXSW 2020 Film Festival Collection. It will stream the SXSW films for free through the Amazon website. Filmmakers will need to opt-in to the deal and will be paid for it. It’s unlikely that all of the SXSW films will stream - several of them likely already have streaming deals set up or will be looking to maintain exclusivity for an eventual payday.

SXSW festival head Janet Pierson and her team are sending letters to all of the filmmakers today, and they’ll have a better idea shortly how big this video initiative will be. Salke said she wants the presentation to include conversations with the makers of the SXSW films to create a virtual festival feel and make the most of an unimaginable situation (SXSW had never before been canceled). They will also be relying on indie filmmakers like Jay Duplass for help in setting this up.

HBO is making a large library of its TV shows, docos, and movies available to stream for free. It will be for a limited time. Shows included:

  • Ballers (5 Seasons)

  • Barry (2 Seasons)

  • Silicon Valley (6 Seasons)

  • Six Feet Under (5 Seasons)

  • The Sopranos (7 Seasons)

  • Succession (2 Seasons)

  • True Blood (7 Seasons

  • Veep (7 Seasons)

  • The Wire (5 Seasons)

This sounds like a smart move by HBO. They have a new streaming service launching in May. If, over the next few weeks, I got hooked on a Six Feet Under marathon and halfway through HBO Max launches and cuts off my access, I’d likely be inclined to subscribe to finish watching…

The Last of Us Part 2

One of the best TV shows of 2019 was the Australian series Lambs of God. It has just been acquired for streaming in North America. Will it be on Netflix? No. Hulu? No. Amazon? No. HBO Max? No. Peacock? No. The great news is that you can stream it on your favourite streaming service and mine… Topic.

No, this is the first I’ve heard of the service too. It will stream on there along with high profile TV favourites like Honour, Enterprice, and The Miracle.
