Goop: The TV show. PLUS: A TV for Gen Z. AND: Golden Globes... The Day After
Always Be Watching is put together by Dan Barrett who has never been to the Goop website.
As far as TV at the Golden Globes went, the winners were HBO and Amazon. HBO series Succession and Chernobyl both did rather well, as did Amazon Prime Video comedy Fleabag. Apple TV+ failed to land any awards despite having The Morning Show with Golden Globes bait Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. The big loser of the night was Netflix. It had three movies competing for best drama (though, some would suggest that’s actually a big win in itself), but it lost out to 1917 in that category. At CES TV manufacturer Samsung unveiled the Sero - a 43-inch TV that swivels around to display both horizontally and vertically. The idea being that it can display mobile portrait video on the TV without showing black bars.
Where I think this misses the mark a little bit is with the size of the screen. At 43 inches I suspect they’re thinking of its use case being teenage bedrooms. But, the teenage bedroom isn’t a place of co-viewing. They’re more likely to watch the video natively on their phones. Watching vertical video on a TV is probably something that is being done to view video with friends or is being done by older people. Which makes more sense on a bigger TV in a lounge room.
