Gillian Anderson joins The Crown. ALSO: Aussies okay with c**t.

Always Be Watching is written by the foul-mouthed Dan Barrett

The Crown has found its Iron Lady and it is Gillian Anderson. While the third season is yet to debut, Anderson is expected to feature in the shows fourth season, which is now in production.

Writer Walter Mosley was in the writers room of a show that was believed to be Star Trek: Discovery when he told a story:

"I just told a story about a cop who explained to me, on the streets of Los Angeles, that he stopped all n---ers in paddy neighborhoods and all paddies in n---er neighborhoods, because they were usually up to no good. I was telling a true story as I remembered it."

After telling this story, Mosley found himself at the wrong end of a phone call with Human Resources. Mosley was told that he could use the N word in a script, but not say it out loud.

"There I was, a black man in America who shares with millions of others the history of racism. And more often than not, treated as subhuman," he continued. "If addressed at all that history had to be rendered in words my employers regarded as acceptable."

Mosley immediately quit the show and left.

The SMH has an interesting profile on Margaret Anderson and her role with the Australian Classification Board. It’s a good read in itself for an understanding on what a classification board looks for in content, exactly, but maybe the most interesting tidbit was what Anderson thought of Netflix’s own self-rating system:

"At the end of the day, Americans are prudes. They are extraordinarily conservative by Australian standards when it comes to sex, to nudity and to coarse language," she says. "For example, there will be five utterances of 'f--k' language in, say, a 100-minute film, and Netflix will go MA15+. And it's like: I don't think so! Where was the 'c--t' in that film?!"

I am mostly wondering now whether this newsletter will make it though most people’s email filters.

And finally…

Robert Axelrod, the actor who voiced Zedd in Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, has died aged 70. He also worked on the English language translation for the well-remembered cartoon Samurai Pizza Cats.
