Always Be Watching - 25 September 2018

Always Be Watching is by Dan Barrett

The official US TV season kicked off this week. But does such a thing exist anymore? Nope.

Domhnall Gleeson has landed a starring role in HBO’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge-produced pilot Run. Show is about ex-lovers who made a pact 15 years ago that if they ever needed to escape life, they could send each other a simple text message, “RUN,” and impulsively disappear together.

South Park returns this week for its 22nd season with an episode about a school shooting called Dead Kids. Make sure you watch this clip:

Last week it was discovered that Telltale Games are shutting down for good. In limbo was an upcoming game based on Stranger Things. Presumed dead, Netflix has announced that they are continuing to try to find a place for Stranger Things. Though, it doesn’t sound entirely like it will be the game Telltale had planned.

We are in the process of evaluating other options for bringing the Stranger Things universe to life in an interactive medium.”

What? Michael Chabon is part of the writing staff for the Capt Picard TV show? Very good.

The trailer for My Dinner With Herve, the film about the star of Fantasy Island, has dropped. It looks great:

A few months ago I found myself on a plane watching High Fidelity. I loved the film when it came out, but until I rewatched it, I’d forgotten just how much the film works for me. Today comes news Disney will have Zoe Kravitz star in a TV adaptation of the book/movie, with the series debuting on the upcoming Disney streaming service. I really like High Fidelity. I really like Zoe Kravitz. Yet, this news leaves me a bit cold. What worked about High Fidelity was less about a guy talking to his ex-girlfriends to find out why their relationships failed, and more about entering the world of saddo guys who obsess over collectable records because they can’t make real life connections work. Enter any second hand record store and you’ll see a bunch of these guys. And they’re almost always guys.

I’m sure I’ll still watch it and like it.

Oh, and interesting that it’s Zoe Kravitz - I’m still smitten with Lisa Bonet, who played a dreamy musician in the film. Bonet is, of course, Kravitz’s mother in real life.
