Your weekly guide to all of the new and returning shows from US | UK | Australia

This is most certainly one of the biggest weeks for TV in 2020. Great news after what has been a pretty quiet couple of weeks. Months?

This is what you need to know:

  • The big mainstream release is Netflix drama series Away - a science-fiction family drama starring Hilary Swank as an astronaut on the first manned mission to Mars and the family she has left behind (with her husband played by Josh Charles). This is the series that dares to ask: can a woman astronaut have it all?

  • Another big series is Ridley Scott directing HBO Max’s Raised By Wolves. Scott is only directing the pilot of the series about androids raising two children. Reviews haven’t been kind to the series for the episodes following the pilot.

  • Returning for a second season is the cult hit The Boys.

  • Art-house movie fans will want to check out the new film by Charlie Kaufman (Adaptation, Being John Malkovich, Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind) which was made for Netflix - I’m Thinking of Ending Things. Kaufman has struggled to find funding to direct his second feature following 2008’s Synecdoche New York.
