Always Be Streaming: 08 May 2020
Your guide to the new and returning TV shows ready for you to stream right now.
Here’s what you need to know for your weekend viewing:
New Netflix drama The Eddy is a modern-day drama set in Paris about a jazz club from La La Land director Damien Chazelle. I think it looks great, but I have sometimes have trouble getting access to Netflix screeners and haven’t been able to check it out yet. Reviews generally are mixed, but leaning more toward favourable than not.
Betty is an HBO youth-targeted drama about a group of teen girl skateboarders in New York. It’s a spin-off of sorts from the movie Skate Kitchen. It uses some of the same actors, but with reworked characters. Crystal Moselle, who directed the film, is back for the series and directed all 6 episodes.
If you’re in Australia, can I suggest checking out one of my favourite TV comedies: Happy Endings. To my knowledge, it hasn’t legitimately screened in Australia before, but every episode is now streaming at SBS On Demand. The firt few episodes are a bit basic, but it very quickly finds its rhythms. It’s a fun hangout show.
